State Sales Tax Holiday Weekend Underway for Storm Supplies

By CBS 8 News

Today was the first day to take advantage of Alabama's first severe weather preparedness tax free holiday weekend.

Shoppers in Montgomery were purchasing flashlights, batteries, weather radios and fire extinguishers.

Those are just some of the items on the list recommended by The Governor's Tornado Recovery Action Council.

Other items include cell phone batteries and chargers, lanterns, first aid kits and generators.

Items must be $60 or less, except for generators, which can be $1,000 or less.

Shoppers in Montgomery will also get a break from city and county tax too.

Beginning next year, the sales tax holiday will be held during the last full weekend of February --just ahead of Alabama's spring severe weather season.
