Senator Proposes Changing the Way State Agencies Buy Goods
The way Alabama state agencies buy goods could soon be changing. Proponents say that would be a good thing for Alabama's finances.
Republican State Senatur Arthur Orr of Decatur is proposing a bill that would allow state agencies to stray from a list of state contractors and buy goods from other companies.
However, the prices must be at least 10 percent lower than the statewide contract price.
Orr says the bill gives agencies more flexibility the legislative fiscal office says the proposal could save the state up to $7 million a year.
