State legislators from the Selma-Dallas County area are gearing up for a busy upcoming legislative session.

Senator Hank Sanders and Representative Darrio Melton say economic development, job creation and education remain top priorities for the area. Both legislators say they will introduce new legislation during the session.

"I've already pre-filed some bills dealing with the death penalty. I just feel that the death penalty is very discriminatory," said Sanders.

"I just feel we need a seamless education system whereby companies are in partnership with the junior colleges and the high schools where they are training or letting the colleges and high school know what skills they are looking for," said Melton.

School safety is another major issue they expect the legislature to address this session.
