CBS 8 Sports Analyst John Longshore was on CBS 8 News at 6:00 to talk about the latest candidates mentioned in Auburn's search for a new football coach.
Two new candidates mentioned are TCU's Gary Patterson and Boise State's Chris Petersen. Longshore doesn't believe either has a realistic shot at getting the job. He says their names seem to pop up for coaching vacancies every year.
Longshore thinks three coaches are on Auburn's list -- Former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and former Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who's now the head coach at Arkansas State.
But Longshore believes Auburn should be looking nationwide for the best long-term coach, and not just rush to find a quick fix.
As for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Longshore says look for an even match-up with the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday.
