The Disabled Amerivan Veterans of America will be meeting in Montgomery next month, and a regional director of the group says the number of veterans needing their services is increasing.
Dave Riley says battlefield medicine and protective gear has improved so much that some military personnel who would have died from their wounds in earlier wars are now being saved, but with life changing injuires.
Riley's injuires occured off the battlefield.
He was serving in the Coast Guard in Mobile when he came in contact with a bacterial infection that put him into a coma within 24 hours.
He was without his arms and legs when he awoke.
