Selma Murder Suspects in Court

By Alabama News Network

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The suspects in a murder last week in Selma make their first appearance in court Monday afternoon.

District Attorney Michael Jackson says Davaris Mendenhall and Javonte Anderson are charged with murder after a fight escalated into gunfire. Jackson says both suspects were appointed attorneys and a preliminary hearing date was set for January 30th.

The shooting happened last week on the 1400 block of Green Street. Jackson says the suspects chased down the victim and shot him multiple times.

"The victim met these two defendants, they met up at a house, there was some kind of dispute that arose and that's when the victim tried to flee, they pursued the victim, gunned him down," said Jackson.

Jackson says the judge kept their bonds at $1,000,000 dollars each.
