By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  People in Selma are being urged to invest into their community by shopping locally as much as possible this holiday season.

Officials at the Chamber of Commerce want holiday shoppers to support local businesses this Christmas. They say the holiday shopping season is the most important time of year for retail businesses.

Retailers say up to a third of their annual sales come during this time of year. "This is when we make the majority of our money is in December," said business owner Doris Truax.

The money generated by sales taxes help fund local schools and city and county government.
