Selma-Dallas Co. Fireworks Show Still A Go For Now

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The threat of rain on Thursday - could affect the Annual Independence Day City-County Fireworks Show at Memorial Stadium in Selma.

Officials say the show will go on as planned -- for now. They say the gates will open at six and the show is scheduled to start at 7:30 -- but could be delayed depending on the weather. There's a good chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday.

Dallas County Probate Judge says thousands of people attend the fireworks show each year.

"If its just a light rain and no damaging wind or lightning they tell me they can still do the pyrotechnics so hopefully we'll get a window in there by nine o'clock where we can do them," said Ballard.

He said if the show has to be cancelled because of the weather -- a new date for the fireworks show would have to set by the city.
