Salvation Army: Family Thrift Store

By Ellis Eskew

The Salvation Army helps people in need in our community year round. One of the ways they serve them is by your donations to the Family Thrift Store.

You can find just about anything at the salvation army thrift store... From clothes... And couches...To  books.

"We have furniture. We have appliances. We have clothing, books, records, antique collectibles," said store manager LaTonya Duncan.

They are all donations from the public.
Once they are dropped off at one of their locations, the Salvation Army goes through the donations and decides what can be resold.
It's then minimally priced and put on their shelves.
Faye Lewis says she loves shopping at the family thrift store for many reasons.

"They just have basically everything you would need even if you are young and want to start off in an apartment and want well, good used pieces in your place. This is the place to come because its good quality merchandise and its clean," said Lewis.

The Salvation Army needs your help in keeping the store doors open.
That's why your donations are so important.

"If we do not have clothing, if we do not have donations of furniture, we don't have a business. This particular Salvation Army store is the key and the success to everything else. If we are not successful then the Salvation Army is not successful," said Duncan.

If you have donations such as clothing, collectibles or furntiure for the Salvation Army, you can drop off your items at the donation center on Maxwell Boulevard, the Family Thrift Store off Eastern Boulevard, or call the Salvation Army to get a truck sent out to pick it all up for you.
