Runners across America are lacing up their running shoes in memory of those impacted by the Boston marathon explosions.

The images of the finishline of the Boston Marathon Monday will be forever in the hearts and minds of people across the world.
The explosions in Boston were certainly felt in the hearts of runners here in Montgomery.

"The day it happened, I got out and started running, just made me want to run for all the people, just hits you that way," said runner Patti Preston.

West Marcus has been running for 35 years, and he says he won't let this stop him now.

"I think most of us feel like someone picked one of the most iconic events in the United States. Oldest running event in America, and they wanted to do the most damage they could do and try to disrespect it. And its not going to work. Runners won't do that, number one. And Americans won't do that either," said Marcus.

Wednesday evening the River Region Runners Club laced up their running shoes in memory of those lives lost and impacted by the tragedy.

"I think our crowd of runners in the running community, it has actually brought us all together a little bit more to be more resolved in keeping out sport together," said Pete Preston, president of the RRR Club.

In a sport known for perseverance and passion, the group of runners say they are more determined now to put one foot in front of the other.

"We cherish the ability to be able to do this and the friendships that we made and we won't be stopped by anybody," said Marcus.
