Residents Celebrate Robert E Lee's Birthday

If Robert E Lee were alive today he would be 204.
Montgomery residents gathered to celebrate his birthday at the First White House of the Confederacy.
Some even dressed in period costume.
The celebration included birthday cake with a bust of Lee on top.
Lee was the commanding general of the Confederate Army in the Civil War is famous for his combat engineering skills.
He later became a president at Washington College.
Commander Bill Rambo shared highlights of Lee’s life with the crowd.
Bill Rambo, with the Confederate Memorial Park, says “After the war he turned to peaceful pursuits he became the voice of the south, not in trying to stir up trouble, but for reconciliation that was his real accomplishment in United States history.”
Lee died in October of 1870 at the age of 63.
