Reports of Child Sex Crimes and Arrests Increase in Dallas Co.

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  There have been so many cases of minor children allegedly being sexually abused by adults in the news in Dallas County over the past few weeks -- that it has some people wondering if child sex abuse is on the rise in the area?

Authorities say there has been an increase in the number of child sex abuse cases reported -- and arrests -- but not necessarily in the number of cases.

They say more people are coming forward because of increased public awareness about the problem.

"People are not as fearful about going to law enforcement about that situation," said Dallas Co. District Attorney Michael Jackson. "Kids are not as fearful now about going to their parents and telling them what someone may have done to them."

Authorities say there are about 230 registered sex offenders living in Dallas County. They say the average age of a sex abuse victim is nine years old.

Yes, Caroline, the focus must shift to preventing and stopping sexual crime against children before it occurs. That will never happen with the current focus on those who have already offended and been/are being punished. They have a very low risk of re-offending. That will only happen when the focus and the resources shift to a system of education, awareness, and prevention. That is what all research indicates as the only way to truly make a difference. Your 100% recidivism rate among pedophiles--and not all pedophiles molest children and not all who molest children are pedophiles--is an opinion for those who have not been apprehended, but once apprehended, the rate is in single digits. And the 300 victims for the "average pedophile" has absolutely no fact-based evidence.

This article stopped just short of giving useful information. There are 230 former offenders registered in the county. How many were involved in one of the newly reported abuse cases? How many of the newly reported abuse cases were committed by a person never before charged with a sex crime and a person who has a personal connection with the child he or she molested. Can you print this information?

Accused pedophiles/ child molesters in Dallas County and elsewhere like Sylvain Kustyan, Ariel Castro, Jerry Sandusky, etc. need to be caught BEFORE they molest our innocent children for years. Castro and Sandusky are behind bars, Unfortunately Kustyan is not. Kustyan, formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Hermin/ Mazingarbe, France, has been formally charged with 1st Degree Sodomy and Sexual Abuse of a ten-year-old little boy. Kustyan fled to avoid imminent arrest. As the average pedophile has 300 different victims in their lifetime and as the recidivism rate among pedophiles is virtually 100% they must be stopped ASAP.
