A new downtown Montgomery library and children's museum called the Questplex has launched a fundraising campaign.

To help cover some of the costs, project leaders are hoping to raise $5.5 million. Close to $200,000 has been raised so far.

The facility will be located downtown at One Dexter Plaza. It will be home to a new public library and a hands-on science and technology museum for children.

"So, for example, we have a global classroom where students who are learning say the Korean language here can interact in real time in a real learning environment with students in Korea who are learning English," said Questplex campaign director Colin Coyne.

The $22.5 million project is set to be the first of its kind in the country allowing kids of all ages to explore and learn through hands-on materials.

Parents we talked to are on board with the project.

"I think it be a good idea to open it up because just to keep the children off the street since there's so much happening. There's so much they can do on their free time, just to keep them active and away from the negative," said mother Vet Davis.

The Questplex will be funded by a private, public partnership.
But they need your help to meet the 5.5 million dollar goal to help children learn, grow and explore the world around them.

We are hoping to utilize the dream by January 2015, and to do that, we want to excite people with this first-of-its-kind, anywhere-in-the-world vision," said Coyne. "We want it to turn into a reality."

Officials say the bidding process will start in the next few days. They hope to have bid secured by the first of September.
