Probate Judge Race: Crenshaw Co.

This is a big race in Crenshaw County. A chance for voters to choose their chief elections officer.

It's the race for Crenshaw County Probate Judge. And for the last 11 years, that seat has been taken by Incumbent, Jim Perdue.

"Let me tell you this, though: I have not lost the passion for this job. If you don't have a passion for your job, you need to find something else to do," Said Perdue.

But his challenger, former county commissioner, Ronnie Hudson, thinks he's more suitable for the job.

"I'd be more accessible, if anyone came to our office. Any of their family or anyone they know, you send them to our office. We'll do everything we can to help them solve their problem," Said Hudson.

Hudson has lived in the county his whole life. He served the county commission for eight years, four of those years as chairman. Although he lost his seat in 2010, he says he hasn't changed.

"I'm the same man I always was. I love this county. I love serving this county. I love serving the people in this county. The two years that I've been out of office I missed a lot and I just want to be back in serving the people," Said Hudson.

And serving the people is exactly what Judge Perdue says makes him want to be here. He says he has more things to accomplish if he is re-elected.

"In the future, there will be more electronic recording of wills and deeds and other proceedings that will be done electronically. There will land transactions [that] will be done electronically. And I've been a part of that," Said Perdue.

And it's a race that's making residents anxious for voting day.

"I'm looking for someone that will be there for us when we need them and will do what we need done when we go for help. And that they will do what they go there to do. Serve us as people," Said Luverne resident, Doris Rogers.

There are about 15,000 people in the county. From that, there are 9,000 residents who are registered to vote.

County residents will cast their vote in November.
