Pickens County Firey Train Car Derailment

By Alabama News Network

The firey derailment of more than two dozen rail cars will lead to a massive cleanup in Pickens County in East Alabama. Officials say the train went off the rails overnight Friday, spilling crude oil and derailing 25 tank cars.

Right now, the fire is contained, but the burning of contents in some tank cars continues.

President of Alabama and Gulf Coast Railroad Bill Jasper says locomotive data recorders show the train was going below the track's speed limit.  No injuries have been reported, but railroad officials say it may take sometime to get the mess cleaned up..
