Pack-a-Purse Drive Runs Through December, Benefits AIM

Toiletries, makeup and more...

They're everyday items for most, but for some, they've become a luxury.

“I know that they'll be greatly appreciated.”

Morgan Berney is a member of the Public Relations Council of Alabama and is orchestrating a donation drive with Aid to Inmate Mothers. That’s a non-profit, “dedicated to welcoming incarcerated mothers back into society and giving them a positive outlook on life.”

To help bring these ladies some holiday cheer - the two organizations are collecting purses packed with anything from mirrors to makeup.

“New or gently used purses filled with items such as toiletries items, undergarments, pajamas and feel-good items like movie passes or restaurants, gift-cards or even monetary donations,” explained Berney.

Nearly 60 women are released from prison each month with little or no resources or family support. The goal of “Pack-a-Purse” is to provide services for these women that will assist in positive lifestyle changes while they make their transition back into society.

To participate in this drive, just bring your packed purses to the Montgomery Area Visitor Center downtown or to the United Methodist Children’s Home on Zelda Court. PRCA will deliver all the packed purses to AIM at the end of December.
