Opp Man Convicted Of Sexual Abuse

An Opp man has been convicted of raping a 7-year-old girl in 2008, even though the girl denied the charges.

A Covington County jury found William George Maxie guilty of First Degree Rape, Sodomy and Sexual Abuse of a Child Under Twelve. The young girl testified she had not been molested and had been pressured by a friend to say that she had been. But the jury convicted Maxie after hearing from the two friends the victim talked with, her teacher, law enforcement and medical personnel.

Maxie will be sentenced on October 10th and faces up to life in prison.
