From the West Alabama Newsroom--  A twelve year old is shot in the chest by a nine year old in Camden.

Camden Police Chief Lucas Knight says the two children were playing with a 38 caliber hand gun -- when it accidentally went off. He says it happened at around six Wednesday evening at a residence on Jefferson Drive in the Colonial Acres community.

Knight says the twelve year old victim is now recovering at a Birmingham hospital.

"As of this moment his condition is stable and as far as my knowledge, they're going to hold him for observation for another couple of days," said Knight.

He said no criminal charges have been filed in the case at this time -- but the shooting remains under investigation.
