Montgomery's downtown development is moving at full speed creating 100 new jobs in the capital city.

"This is going to be the fourteenth location in the River Region," says Mayor Todd Strange.

A new Waffle House is set to open early this summer. It's the first in the nation that meets SmartCode, which means it will be pedestrian friendly.

Regional Vice President Michael Clements says they will hire 40 people.

"We are glad to bring scattered, smothered, covered to downtown Montgomery," he says. "We look forward to seeing all you all in the restaurant."

A few doors down, we were given a sneak-peak inside the DoubleTree by Hilton, which is in the old Madison Hotel. It has 131 rooms and will open in April.

The hotel is hiring 60 people. So far, more than 1,000 people have applied.

"We have got eight managers and 52 hourly employees," says General Manager Tom Quatrochi.

Downtown Montgomery is growing. New lofts and restaurants are popping up. But what would residents like to see?

"A movie theater! I've grown up down here. This was my stomping ground around here," says lifelong resident Tom Brantley.

"That's going to be a big draw to get people down here if in fact they get grocery shopping and stores along these lines," says Craig Washing of Montgomery.

The possibilities are endless, and in a growing city, anything can happen.

The DoubleTree has made most of its hires. It is still looking for servers and cooks. For more information: http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels/alabama/doubletree-by-hilton-hotel-montgomery-downtown-MGMMADT/index.html

As for the Waffle House, they have just started their hiring process. If you are interested in a management position, head to www.WHcareers.com. All other positions, Clements says to stop by a Montgomery location, fill out an application and let them know you are interested in the Madison Ave. location.
