spy Kreme opens their new storefront in August they will have another special for customers in celebration of thirty five years, so stay tuned cause it's a surprise.
Doughnut lovers will soon get a new choice in Montgomery. Dunkin' donuts is coming to town.
Will the new store create some friendly competition or an all out donut war?
Competition for your doughnut dollars is heating up in Montogmery. Dunkin' Donuts is building its first store here near Taylor and Vaughn Roads and across town an old staple in the donut business is making some big changes.
Construction crews are working away on the first Dunkin' Donuts location in the River Region. The retail giant already has locations in the Birmingham and Dothan areas. Dunkin' Donuts is best known for its wide selection of the sweet treats and coffee that's so popular it's sold in some grocery stores.
Across town Krispy Kreme on Atlanta Highway near the Boulevard is undergoing a major makeover. General Manager Scott Wilson says they're adding a drive thru which should be complete by next Monday. When it's done, the drive thru will be open 24 hours and the store front will close temporarily for renovatons. Krispy Kreme will expand the dining area from 16 seats to 48 seats and add restrooms.
Scott Wilson, General Manager for Krispy Kreme, says "We will actually have room in the store now, as of right now if we get a busy day we have more than five customers in line they're standing outside just now room in the store ist's so small right now so now we'll have room to fill up the lobby with customers waiting to get their doughnuts."
The new store front should be open by August 22. Wilson says the renovatons have been in the plans for two years and he's not feeling the heat from Dunkin' Donuts impending arrival.
"Krispy Kreme's been here for 35 years and we ain't going nowhere we done run dunkin donuts out of here one time we're not worried about this," said Wilson.
Will Dunkin' Donuts opening create a doughnut war or be a total cakewalk. We asked cutomers on the street.
Taylor Belsterling, a Krispy Kreme customer, says, "I might try it out, I've always been a Krispy Kreme fan their hot glazed doughnut, it's hard to beat."
Katie Windham says Dunkin Donuts will be closer to her house which is a plus.
"I guess we'll just have to try it out and see which one we like better, it will be closer though, but they're really not that far apart so I'm sure people will go to both," said Windham.
CBS 8 news talked to the owner of Dunkin' Donuts who says he didn't want to go on camera right now but says more information will be forthcoming on the new location soon. He says it will open sometime in the fall.

This will not be the first Dunkin Donuts in Montgomery. There was one one the southern boulevard a few years ago that closed down. FYI. One the interviews even mentioned that they were run out of town before yet you refer to this Dunkin Donutsas the first in the river region. It might help to do a little research before doing your story.
