Neighbors React: Mtgy. Firefighter Fatally Shot by Elmore Co. Deputies
Neighbors are speaking out about the incident. Alabama News Network spoke with those who witnessed the scene, and are now offering their prayers to the family.
Those we spoke with who live on Hogan Road near the scene tell us Jeremy Acre was quiet and his family kept to themselves, so they say it came as a shock to hear what happened last night.
"I was sitting at my computer looking out of my front window, and I saw deputy sheriff's car come by here with lights on going about 85 to 90 miles an hour," says Teresa Walker. "I was scared he wasn't going to make it around the curb."
Walker says the family was fairly new to the neighborhood, and she didn't know them that well, but she and her brother, Grady Hutcheson, say deputies shouldn't have used excessive force.
Neighbors we spoke with say Acre's wife and children were home at the time. They believe Acre's wife is a teacher.
We have been told that Acre has been with Montgomery Fire Department for several years. We put in a call to the department, but they cannot comment at this time.
