'Buck Naked Bandit,' Caught Breaking in Cars in Prattville

By Ashley Thompson

A convenience store in Autauga County was the scene of two car break-ins. This man, who some are calling the 'Buck Naked Bandit,' as investigators scratching their heads and on the lookout.

Alabama News Network received surveillance video of the theft. At first, the man gets out of his own car, a darker-colored Dodge pick-up truck, before busting out the window of the car next to his and ransacking it. He does it again to another nearby vehicle.

"When I heard about it, they caught him on camera, a naked man," says Darryle Williams who works next door to the convenience store. "He broke in one car, got a GPS then got a cell phone."

Police confirm that both a cell phone and a GPS device were stolen. Williams says he can't make sense of it.

"I don't understand folks breaking in cars anyway and now why do you want to break in cars naked?"

Why IS he naked? It's a question Sgt. James Harry with Prattville Police says he can't answer.

"There's been a lot of odd cases that I've worked in the past but nothing like this."

"I would never think somebody would break into a car naked," says Eric Jackson of Prattville Powersports. "It just sounds nuts to me."

Jackson says he's not too worried about the perpetrator coming on his property next.

"Barbed wire, ultra violet lights, laser beams, you name it...it's in here," he says.

But regardless, Sgt. Harry says police need anyone with information on this man to come forward.

"Hopefully people who watch the news, maybe somebody will recognize him," he says. "Somebody that this guy has talked to, maybe he's told somebody about what happened and they'll come forward."

If you can identify the man in the video and know his whereabouts, you are encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 334-215-STOP.

The suspect damaged the vehicles and stole property and did it all naked.
