NICU Christmas Celebration At Baptist East

By Amanda Wade

Baptist East is bringing together families for some Christmas cheer.

The hospital held its 10th annual Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Christmas for families who have had babies at Baptist East. Nurses say over 100 babies and children who have been treated by NICU nurses and doctors came together to visit the unit that saved their children.

Parents, like Joel Bolina, say it's a special event for families who share this bond to be able to thank the people who treated their children like one of their own, "You know, never have I felt so helpless. But it was always comforting to know we had a committed staff of NICU nurses, and it's obviously just heart warming to be here to see them again seven years later."

Nurses say this is their favorite part of the year, seeing some of the nearly 500 kids who have come through the NICU now smiling and thriving.
