About 40 vendors lined the walls of Montgomery's downtown Renaissance Hotel to give hundreds of people a "Taste of the River Region."

There were vendors from Prattville, Wetumpka and Montgomery, showcasing their favorites meals, desserts, and drinks.

The Alabama Restaurant Association hosted the event along with the Junior League of Montgomery.

Local businesses say the event gives them a chance to reach out to different groups of people and hopefully, attract new customers.

"It definitely builds community involvement with the businesses," said Eric Duggan, a Taste of the River Region board member.

"As the businesses see these people come back and dine with them or promote their business after they may have met them at an event like this, they would be willing to do more events and more charity events and it will help strengthen community involvement," Duggan said.

The event raises thousands of dollars for charities in the area.
