Montgomery Zoo Expands, Becomes Top Tourist Attraction for Some

By Tamika Bickham

The Montgomery Zoo continues to add on to their zoo experience with the hopes of drawing more visitors. Officials there say more improvements are on the way that will make the zoo a top tourist destination.

In the last few years they've created several hands-on exhibits like a sky lift, a giraffe encounter, parakeet cove, and also horse rides.

The next addition will be a hands-on stingray exhibit, once they've raised all of the money needed to complete the project.

Steven Pierce, with the zoo, says now they see about 300,000 visitors each year and that number is steadily rising.
"To have this type of zoo in Montgomery I think is great. We compare very well with the Atlanta Zoo and the Birmingham Zoo," said Pierce.

The money raised during the fundraiser Zoobilation, will go towards building the stingray exhibit. Zoobilation will be held next Thursday, September 20th.
