Montgomery police say they've arrested two city jail officers as part of an investigation involving inmate contraband, and charges against a federal inmate being held at the city jail are pending.

Police have charged Meekea James of Hayneville with one count of promoting prison contraband, first degree, a Class C felony. Police also charged Brenda Myrick of Montgomery with promoting prison contraband, third degree, a misdemeanor.

The police department says it's started termination proceedings against the two officers, who both resigned effective immediately.

James is being held under a $15,000 bond and Myrick was being held under a $3,000 bond. Police say Myrick had been employed as a correctional officer since 2001. James was hired in 2006.

Montgomery Police say they started the investigation after the department developed information  alleging an inmate had received contraband provided by correctional officers. Police have not said what type of items were brought into the jail, but said no weapons were involved.
