It's getting down to the wire for the November presidential election. Local politicians say Mitt Romney's made a smart choice to pick Congressman Paul Ryan as his VP.
"I think it's an absolutely wonderful choice. I think Paul Ryan will do wonders for the campaign. He's young, he's extremely intelligent, he's very bright in the economic areas and can speak in language that people can understand," said Sue Neuwien, the second Congressional District Grassroots Chair for the Montgomery Republican party.
But not everyone in the River Region is set on what the GOP is calling "America's Comeback Team."
"It's either going to win big or fail big. And I think Romney is banking on the fact that he could lock up his conservative base with Paul Ryan as the vice presidential nominee because he's playing to the far right," Said Democratic Representative Joe Hubbard
But nonetheless, some voters say Romney's decision to add Ryan to the ballot will not impact their vote at the polls.
"I'm not a Romney choice, I mean, you know, I like Obama. That's who I'm voting for," said Algenr Dubley of Montgomery
"I'm Republican, anyways, so I will be. No matter who he would choose, I'm going to choose Mitt Romney," said Chad Beardshear of Montgomery.
In a statement Saturday morning, Governor Robert Bentley said he believes Romney made an excellent choice and Ryan will make an outstanding vice president. Bentley says he "looks forward to working with their team and seeing them elected this November."
Mitt Romney will be in Birmingham for a fundraiser at The Club on August 15th.
