Roads Closed Around RSA: Traffic Rerouted Downtown Rest of Summer

By Heather VacLav

Montgomery drivers will need to plan an alternate route if driving downtown for the rest of the summer.

Saturday afternoon two of the three lanes on Lawrence Street between Madison Avenue and Monroe Street were blocked off, and will be for up to eight weeks for a row of large generators being used by RSA.

The parking meters on the west side of this street, on the Double Tree Hotel side, will be bagged so no one will be allowed to park there. This will give about 20 feet of travel lane for vehicles.

The entire street will be blocked twice a day during non-peak hours to refuel the generators. Once the generators are in place they will be able to give us the times that the whole street will be blocked based on the fuel consumption. The City of Montgomery has requested a 4:30 am and 7:30 pm, if possible.

Traffic Engineering and Street Maintenance have barricaded and coned the area to make it safe for vehicles. Along with signage in all directions giving drivers advance notice.
