A Pike County woman has been found safely after officials say she wandered away from her home near Springfield Baptist Church south of Brundidge.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas says deputies found 86-year-old Octavia Ellis about three-quarters of a mile from her home. Ellis disappeared around 2:30 Monday afternoon while walking her dog. Thomas says Ellis suffers from Alzheimer's and may have accidentally walked too far.

Pike County volunteer firefighters and about a dozen volunteers assisted in the search.

Thomas says Ellis has some minor scratches on her arm, but was not otherwise injured.
