Lawmaker Speaks Out Against Casinos Reopening

Now that the state house corruption trial is over, Victoryland owner Milton McGregor says he wants to reopen his casino. But one state lawmaker says, “Not so fast.”

Senator Bryan Taylor of Prattville says McGregor has used this trial as an attack against bingo and his casino.

Taylor says the two had nothing to do with each other.

The senator says the trial was about alleged political corruption, and not Alabama’s gambling laws.

McGregor's name was cleared when he was acquitted of all the charges against him this week.

He's said publicly his machines are legal but Taylor says what was illegal before the trial is still illegal.

“They're on the news every night. Alabama is sick and tired of hearing this bingo spin, and the constant drum beat to re-open and expand more casinos in a state where gambling is illegal under the constitution. So I said look, you say it's legal, I say it's a sham, let's have a debate,” said Senator Taylor, (R), District 30.

Taylor says he hasn't heard back on his offer.

McGregor told ABC 32 he plans on having Victoryland up and running in a few months.

We don't want a debate, Mr. Taylor. We want a vote. This waste of tax dollars has gone on long enough.

Who says that they are illegal? It has not been proven.

They won't give a vote because they know what the outcome will be. Bryan Taylor is nothing but a little Bob Riley wannabe.

Mr Taylor then why don't you prepare legislation so the people of Alabama can vote?? I'm with Jon on this. They know what the outcome will be and it won't set well with Boob Riley.
