From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- Perry County residents will soon see some community improvements thanks to $800,000 dollars in grants awarded by Governor Robert Bentley.
The city of Marion will use a $450,000 dollar grant to demolish dilapidated buildings in the city and re-surface several city streets.
"Well, when you have a street that's going to beat your thirty or forty thousand dollar car up, I mean, you want a decent road to ride on and the citizens of Marion are due that," said Marion Mayor Anthony Long. "We're going to try and go by the ones that need it the worst and go down the list."
The county will use a $350,000 dollar grant to expand public water service into western Perry County.
The grants are federally funded and administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
