There are still a few weeks before the school year begins, but some students are already in class.
That's because Montgomery Public School's middle schools are holding orientation this week for its students.
Parents and their soon-to-be sixth graders filled the halls at Goodwyn Middle Tuesday as teachers and faculty familiarized them school policies and procedures.
After a tour through the classrooms, gymnasium, library and even a run-through of the school dismissal process, they all headed to the cafeteria for possibly the best part of the day- lunch.
Goodwyn's principal says these orientation sessions are invaluable to the students and parents alike.
“Even if we don’t have this orientation, the kids will eventually figure it out and the kids will eventually figure it out but we want to ease the minds and say ‘welcome’-parents you're welcome, students you're welcome. This is the environment we are going to provide for you, it's nurturing plus a quality education,” explain John Johnston, principal, Goodwyn Middle School.
Orientation for seventh graders will be Wednesday and eight grade orientation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.
All of MPS’ traditional middle schools are holding orientation. The MPS traditional schools are: Bellingrath Middle, Brewbaker Middle, Capitol Heights Middle, Carr Middle, Georgia Washington Middle, Goodwyn Middle, McKee Middle, and Southlawn Middle.
