By Alabama News Network

Some very special dogs are getting brand new homes today with some very special local children.

The K-9s for Kids program held its annual graduation ceremony right here in Montgomery.

Six families received a trained dog to help children with special needs.

The dogs go through intense training for about two years where they are trained by prison inmates under the supervision of K-9s for kids.

Each dog is specifically trained to assist children with a variety of special needs including juvenile diabetes, brain injury, and spina bifida.
