The Walk of Life was brought to life in downtown Montgomery, as thousands of runners, volunteers and supporters joined the Joy to Life Foundation to fight breast cancer.

Bright and early, the Walk of Life kicked off on Tallapoosa Street in front of the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, and the 5k walk/run finished on Commerce Street.

After the race, participants made their way to Riverfront Park, where they enjoyed food, drinks, the Mighty Kids Dash.

Alabama News Network news anchor Heather VacLav served as the Walk of Life emcee and shared her story about family members both surviving and losing their battle to breast cancer.

Despite the recent bombing at the Boston marathon, people attending the Walk of Life say they chose to stand up against terrorism because fighting breast cancer is a greater cause.

In addition to having extra police officers on site, the Joy to Life Foundation also gave out special Boston commemorative stickers for participants to wear on their left sleeve.

This race is the primary fundraising event for the Joy to Life Foundation.
