It's National Drug Take Back Day, a way for drug and law enforcement agents to get prescription pills off the streets.

City police officers and local DEA agents were at drop off points all around the River Region today.

You may have seen them at East Chase, Garrett Colissuem, or South Boulevard.

They were armed with boxes where you could drop off your expired or un-needed prescription pills.

Local officials say it's a safe way to get those potentially dangerous drugs out of circulation before they hurt someone.

DEA agents say this is also safer than just throwing drugs away or flushing them down the toilet which could pollute the environment.

This is the sixth year for National Drug Take Back Day.
