Is It Too Early for Christmas Decorations to Go on Display?

By Tamika Bickham

This is not typically the time of year we talk about wreaths or reindeer. Christmas is exactly five months away, but some shoppers are already being confronted with holiday decorations.

Shelves are stocked with red and green at Prattville's Hobby Lobby store.

The rows full of Christmas decorations comes as a shock to some shoppers, but a store manager says this is nothing new.

Hobby Lobby begins stocking up on Christmas holiday decorations in May and leaves them up through the year.

They say customers buy ornaments everyday and many crafters are also looking to purchase items prior to the holiday season.

"When crafters start crafting and they go to shows, it has to be ready well in advance. So it has to be available to them, or they won't be able to get ready for it," said store manager, Ray Brockman.

"I don't care for it. I like to take the seasons as they come, and at least get to enjoy what's special about each season," said shopper Nancy Turner.

Hobby Lobby says they've been getting Christmas items in during the month of May for at least the last 15 years.

Other arts and crafts stores like Michael's don't have Christmas decorations on display yet, but say they will be getting them in at the end of August.
