A Technology Conference Helps Montgomery’s Economy Take Flight.
Air Force Representatives descended upon Montgomery for the 23rd annual Information Technology Conference. More than 5000 vendors and attendees from all over the world will spend four days at the event.
Dawn Hathcock, Montgomery Area Chamber Convention and Visitors Bureau, says, “The economic impact that this event brings to the city is just amazing and you’re looking at anywhere from a five million to a ten million dollar impact.”
Maxwell Air Force Base-Gunter Annex has been providing IT solutions to more than half a million Air Force personnel around the world. Overseas combat missions are supported 24 hours a day by people working in Montgomery.
Daniel Bentley, Chairman, 2010 Air Force IT Conference, says “The technologies demonstrated here on the floor and in the seminar sessions are information technology capabilities that we are trying to get into the hands of war fighters when they need it.”
One piece of technology featured is the Telos command and control application which uses video and image sharing to allow real time communication.
Video images can be captured by a cell phone and transmitted live to a command center from the field. The demand for emerging technologies like this one has filled up the floor.
“We’ve actually sold out we’ve got a vendor waiting list we would love to expand but right now we’re a little bit land locked, said Hathcock.
