With taxes due in about one month, the Internal Revenue Service says tax payers need to be on the lookout for scammers.
The IRS says scammers are posing as IRS employees or as tax payers with knowledge about tax benefits.
Alabama's IRS spokesperson says the most common scam is fake e-mails.However, the IRS does not send messages through e-mail, texts, or social media. Most contact is done through mail.
Another common scam is people promising expertise in getting free government money. These scammers often target lower-income families and senior citizens.
