Greenville Police Searching For Drug Store Thief

Greenville police are looking for the thief who stole prescription drugs from a drug store... and they say it might be linked to a drug burglary ring...

It happened around midnight Saturday at the Medicine Shop in Greenville. Surveilence video shows a masked person breaking into the Medicine Shop. Police say in a matter of 58 seconds, the burglar steals the cash drawer and sweeps off shelves of prescription medicine, putting them in a tub. Police say the burglar then runs out of the shop and flees in a light-colored four-door vehicle.

"We also believe that the vehicle used in the burglary in Prattville and the one here is very similar, possibly the same one," Said Greenville Investigator, Justin Lovvorn.

Police say the burglar in Greenville stole several hundred dollars from the cash drawer and more than a dozen bottles of prescription Zantex pills.

"They had a plastic tote, or a little plastic crate that they brought with them. They both wore a ski mask, a dark jacket, and they went directly where they wanted to go. Had a good layout of the store already," Said Lovvorn.

Pharmacy Supervisor, Jimmy Ansley, says this isn't the first time one of the stores has been hit, so now he plans to beef up security.

"Well we're going to look into installing a couple more cameras, maybe securing the front entrance, I'm not sure how we're going to do that yet, perhaps with a metal gate of some sort, but we're going to look into several different things," Said Ansley.

Greenville investigators are now partnering with Prattville Police to see if a December drug store burglary they had is connected with The Medicine Shop.
