Greenetrack Fighting State's Attempt to Collect $75 Million

By WNCF Staff

Greenetrack is fighting a $75 million dollar tax bill from the state.

In court papers, it says the assessment far exceeds the track's assets.

The Greyhound Park filed court papers in a Greene County Circuit Court appealing the Alabama Revenue Department's attempt to collect $61.8 million dollars in taxes and $13.7 million in interest for sales taxes not paid between 2004 and 2008.

The track says state law prohibits levying sales tax on the machine's gross receipts.

A circuit court judge scheduled a status conference on August 25th.
