Governor Bentley Nominates Two For ASU Board of Trustees

By Alabama News Network

Gov. Robert Bentley has nominated Montgomery attorney Robert Gilpin and Hueytown businessman Larry Thornton to be trustees of Alabama State University.

A spokeswoman for the governor announced Thursday that Bentley had sent the nominees to the Senate for approval. A majority vote by the Senate will make the selections official.
Thornton is an Alabama State graduate and serves as president of Thornton Enterprises, which operates five McDonald's restaurants in the Birmingham area. Gilpin is with the law firm Gilpin Givhan and got his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama.
The senator who has Alabama State in his district, Democrat Quinton Ross, said the nominees would provide valuable leadership.
They would fill vacancies created by the resignations of Kathy Sawyer and Larry Lemak.
