Funeral services for iconic Alabama State University professor and civil rights activist Thelma Glass are being held July 31.
Services will be held at noon at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on the campus of ASU. Reverand James E. Arnell of St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church will officiate.
Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. Glass will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral service.
Thelma McWilliams-Glass died on Tuesday, July 24 at the age of 96.
She helped launch the Montgomery Bus Boycott that helped end to the segregation of public transportation in the South.
She was also secretary of the Women's Political Council -- a group that spread spread the word about the boycott.
Glass taught geography at ASU for 40 years.
The family of Glass requests that donations be made to the Aruthur O. and Thelma M. Glass Scholarship in lieu of flowers. Cards and condolences may be sent to Marcia I. Young, 5770 Willow Lake Drive, Hoover, AL 35244.
