An Alabama native and well-known country singer is dead after a shooting at a Nashville bar. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Jerald Wayne Mills, frontman of the Wayne Mills Band, has died after being shot early Saturday morning.

The singer was born in Arab, Al., and played football for the University of Alabama before focusing on his music career.
He played regularly at venues throughout his home state and was expected to play to play a show with Jamey Johnson at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre on New Year's Eve.
According to The Tennesean newspaper, Mills got into a verbal altercation with the owner at the Pit and Barrel bar over smoking a cigarette in a non-smoking area of the bar.
The band posted on it's Twitter page yesterday, "Word is Wayne has passed. God be with us all in this tragedy......"
The owner told police he shot Mills in self-defense. Authorities are investigating those claims.
