By Morgan Hightower

It may be the most dreaded time of year, but one organization is trying make tax season a bit more bearable.

For the fifth year Impact Alabama and Huntington College are teaming up to help working families in the Montgomery area prepare their taxes ... for free.

To qualify, a household with children must make less $50,000 dollars a year.

The goal is to help these families get all the breaks and savings they can.

"The tax refund because of the earned income credit is probably the biggest check people are going to be getting all year. A lot of paid preparers take a big chunk of that and we want to make sure people get the full refund they deserve," said Kathleen Shelton with Impact Alabama.

Last year, Impact Alabama says it was able to save people a million dollars in tax preparation fees, and they're looking to do that again.

The tax center is open four days a week and an appointment is suggested.

The hours are listed below.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Open Noon to 8 p.m.

Friday: Noon to 6 p.m.

Saturday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
