Former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman has written what he says may be his last email to supporters for a while. He's to be re-sentenced to prison on Friday.
The former Governor was convicted of appointing Healthsouth founder Richard Scrushy to an unpaid hospital regulatory board in return for Shrushy making a large donation to Siegelman's State Lottery Foundation. He has served nine months of his original 88 month term, but that has been reduced, and may be reduced further on Friday.
Scrushy was just released from a halfway house. He has been sentenced to some 55 months. He has also been ordered to pay almost $3-Billion in restitution ordered in a civil suit by Healthsouth shareholders.
Siegelman had been out on appeal, but the U.S. Supreme Court recently rejected his last appeal. Siegelman writes that he has lost his livelihood, most of his assets and his freedom..and he asks supporter to stay in touch with his family as he continues what he refers to his "journey for justice".
