Flu Season's Early Arrival Sparks Concerns in Selma
Millions of people get the flu each year - and this year the flu bug has arrived earlier than usual - which has healthcare officials expecting a severe flu season.
Health officials say an early start to flu season typically means there will be more cases of the flu-with some cases more severe than usual.
Dr. Patrica Robinson says the best way to protect against the flu is by getting a flu shot.
"That really is the only way that you can have a possibility of preventing yourself from getting the flu," said Robinson.
Pharamicst Tim Gibbs administers flu shots at Dallas Avenue Pharmacy.
"The supply for the flu vaccine is good this year. There does not seem to be a shortage of it, it seems to be plenty of flu vaccine out there, so there shouldn't be a problem with finding vaccine," said Gibbs.
Health officials say covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough - and frequently washing your hands with soap and water help to prevent the spread of germs.
