Fireworks, Labor Day Celebration Planned for Selma

By Alabama News Network

The summer season is going out with a bang in Selma and Dallas County.

The city is getting ready to host a big  Labor Day Fireworks Celebration Monday at Riverfront Park. There will be vendors, kids activities and games -- and a fireworks show.

The city planned the event to make up for the July 4th Fireworks Show that was cancelled because of rainy weather.

"I'm excited that we're going to do our Labor Day festivities on the river this year compared to doing it in Bloch Park and Memorial Stadium because of the July rain problem, but I think its going to be wonderful. We'll have vendors beginning at 12:00, we'll have children's play and family play around 4:00 and fireworks will probably be around 7:30," said Mayor George Evans.

Evans says he'd like to see the Labor Day fireworks become an annual tradition.
