It was a good day for animal lovers at Auburn University Montgomery.

The university hosted its 11th annual Find a friend Pet Adopt-A-Thon Saturday.

The event is run by students in the university's Nonprofit Leadership Alliance program.

The Adopt-A-Thon became even more popular after Hurricane Katrina to find homes for those pets         who were lost or abandoned in the storm.

About 200 pets are part of the event. According to organizers, 99 percent of those pets will be adopted that day or in the days following.
