Fans and Experts React to Condoleezza Rice on Football Playoff Committee

There's been a lot of discussion and disputes when it comes to the former secretary of state taking on such a big role in making college football decisions.

Football fan James Andrews says, "I don't know if she knows a lot about football. A bunch of women out there that do. Just have to wait and see."

Former Auburn coach Pat Dye had some harsh words for the selection of Rice.
He told that  "All she knows about football is what somebody told her. Or what she read in a book or what she saw on television. To understand football, you've got to play with your hand in the dirt," said Dye.

Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings had similar thoughts.

He told "The Chris Stewart Show", "I'm concerned when I look at some of these names in the paper about whether or not they're qualified to pick the best football teams in the country." said Stallings.

However, BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock explained earlier this week on "The Paul Finebaum Show" a little more on why Rice may have been chosen.

"The first and foremost standard was integrity. People of the highest integrity will serve on this committee," said Hancock.

And football fans we talked to say they are in favor of her.

"They didn't just pull her name out. Obviously, there was a reason why so I believe she is a very intelligent woman. I think she'll do fine," said Alfonso Franklin.

Kelley Phelps tells us, "I do know that her dream was to be the NFL commissioner one day, so I understand she knows a lot about football."

For many, they say time will tell...

"We just have to wait and see how she does. I'm hoping she does well. If not... we'll have to agree with Pat Dye," said Janet Franklin.
