Fans Pack Campgrounds, Hotels for Troy's First Home SEC Matchup

By Brittany Bivins

RV parks, campers' lots and hotels are sold out around Pike County as people head into town for Troy's first ever home matchup against an SEC team. The Trojans will take on Mississippi State tomorrow at Veterans Memorial Stadium, and thousands of fans are heading in to watch the showdown.

"I hope it's a Troy win," said Billy Kennedy, who was staking out prime tailgating space at a lot near the field. "It should be a good game, first time an SEC team has come in here," he said. Kennedy has been tailgating at the lot for about 10 years, and says it's sold out for tomorrow's game.

At Deer Run, an RV campground just outside of Troy, dozens of Mississippi State fans are gearing up for tomorrow's game, too. The Rolling Bulldogs choose several away games to attend together every year, and this time, Troy is one of them. "We selected Troy to come down here, because of the great area, the great campground here and we just wanted to come down here and cheer on the Bulldogs," said Mark Scott.

The university is hoping to sell out all 30,000 seats of Veterans Memorial Stadium. If that happens, it would be the first time in Troy's history. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 PM on Larry Blakeney Field.
